About DIY Home Calculators
We build the measuring tools we kept wishing existed when our own projects stopped mid-weekend for one more bag, box or tin.
DIY Home Calculators is a small, independent publisher of free planning calculators for homeowners and renovators. The site exists for one job: turning honest measurements of a real room, bed, slab or fence line into a materials estimate you can order with confidence — first time, in one delivery, from one batch.
How our calculators are made
Every calculator starts from the standard trade formula for that material — the same maths in manufacturers' coverage charts and builders' estimating handbooks. We then add the parts the raw formula leaves out: waste allowances for cuts and breakage, deductions for doors and windows, and the yield differences between product sizes. Each page publishes its formula and a fully worked example, calculated by hand and cross-checked against the tool, so you can verify the reasoning rather than trusting a black box.
What we are not
We are not a retailer and we do not sell the materials our calculators estimate. We are not a substitute for professional advice on structural work, roofing, electrical or gas projects — those need qualified local tradespeople and, often, permits. Our disclaimer page sets out the limits of the estimates in plain language.
How the site is funded
The site is free to use and is supported by advertising. That funding model only works if the tools stay genuinely useful, so accuracy corrections from readers are welcomed — if a formula or figure looks wrong for your product, tell us through the contact page and we will check it.
